An Analysis of the Recruitment of Students from the Eight Banners in the Qing Dynasty
In order to settle the children of the Eight Banners during the period of social stability,the Qing court allowed them to take exams to obtain student status,thereby encouraging them to learn Han cul-ture.However,with the changes in Manchu-han relations,the number of students in the Eight Banners had also increased or decreased repeatedly.In order to ensure the fairness of the examination,the Qing govern-ment introduced multiple measures in the examination process and admission qualifications,and continu-ously adjusted policies and improved the admission procedures in response to exam fraud.Excellent stu-dents from the Eight Banners became the Eight Banner Tribute Supervisor,and through further education in the Imperial Academy,they entered the officialdom and became an important force in the construction of the Qing Dynasty's political power.
