On Trauma,Spectral Narrative and the Reconstruction of Subjectivity in Ever After
Trauma and spectral narrative are closely related,as historical traumas lingering in memo-ry consistently haunt people at the present in the form of specters'returning.Through a close reading of Graham Swift's Ever After, this paper discusses haunting traumas in personal and family historical memory, which are narrated in the form of spectral writing. Moreover, drawing on Levinas'theory of"the other",the author also analyzes the process of Bill Unwin's reconstruction of subjectivity under the narrative frame-work of questing.Based on above analysis, this paper further discusses the ethical significance of"Neo-Victorian fiction"represented by Ever After in terms of trauma representation and traumatic witness.
