The story of Meng Jiangnu is one of the four traditional folk stories in China,and the main thread and elements that make up the story have evolved and integrated with the passage of time in the vertical direction and the expansion of dissemination regions in the horizontal direction.The festival of Meng Jiangnu sending cold clothes is a re creation of the story of Meng Jiangnu in later generations,and is a product of the combination of traditional folk custom of"sending cold clothes"and Meng Jiangnu's story.By analyzing the stories of Meng Jiangnu in different periods and regions,it can be inferred that the phrase"Meng Jiangnu delivering cold clothes"appeared in the Jiangsu,Zhejiang,and Suzhou Hangzhou regions no later than the Southern Song Dynasty.After development and dissemination in the Yuan,Ming,and Qing dynasties,it gradually became the main component of the folk chain of Meng Jiangnu stories,and even formed a backflow to the prototype and initial spread of Meng Jiangnu stories.
