Analysis of Heavy Metal Content of Water Spinach for Sale in Hainan
Using the Nemerow comprehensive and single factor pollution index methods, the heavy metal content of 108 water spinach samples collected from 18 cities and counties in Hainan province was analyzed.Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to simultaneously determine the content of 8 elements including As,Cd,Hg,Pb,Cr,Ni,Zn and Cu in water spinach. The results showed that the recovery rate of this method was 90.8%~106.0%,relative standard deviation 0.41%~1.14%;the average value of 8 elements in water spinach ranged from 0~2.5 mg·kg-1,with the highest content of Zn was 2.5 mg·kg-1 and Hg not detected;the Nemerow comprehensive and single factor pollution index of all elements were less than 0.7.In the concentration range of 0~100 μg·L-1,the linearity was good, and the method was simple, convenient and feasible. The average content of elements in water spinach in 18 cities and counties did not exceed the limit value. The commercially available water spinach sold in Hainan province was not polluted by heavy metals, and all were qualified vegetables, belonging to the level of food safety. This study could provide data support and reference for the food safety risk in Hainan province, and also provide guidance for the planting and consumption of water spinach in Hainan.
