Analysis of Iodine Nutrition Status of Key Population in Yangshan County from 2022 to 2024
Objective:To analyze the iodine nutrition status of key populations(children aged 8~10 years and pregnant women)in Yangshan,so as to provide scientific basis for formulating effective prevention strategies for IDD.Method:The Yangshan area was divided into 5 regions, namely the east, south, west, north, and central. In each region,40 children aged 8~10 years old and 20 pregnant women were randomly selected as monitoring subjects.Their urine samples and household edible salt samples were collected for iodine content testing.Result:A total of 900 samples of edible salt were tested from 2022 to 2024,with a median iodine content of 25.3 mg·kg-1 and an iodized salt coverage rate of 99.7%;the qualified iodized salt consumption rate was 98.1%,and the township(98.8%)was higher than that of urban areas(95.6%)(Z=8.037,p<0.05);a total of 600 urine samples from children aged 8 to 10 years were tested, and the median urinary iodine was 197 μg·L-1.There was a significant difference in the median urinary iodine among different years(H=23.009,p<0.05),with urban areas(233 μg·L-1)higher than rural areas(185 μg·L-1)(Z=3.608,p<0.05);a total of 300 pregnant women's urine samples were tested, and the median urinary iodine was 157 μg·L-1.There was no significant difference in the median urinary iodine between pregnant women from different years or urban and rural areas(p>0.05).Conclusion:The overall iodine nutrition of key populations in Yangshan is at a suitable level, which meets the national standard for eliminating iodine deficiency disorders. However, there are still considerable proportions of insufficient and excessive iodine nutrition. We should combine with the actual situation, provide guidance by classification, continue to do a good job in popularizing iodine nutrition knowledge among key populations, and scientifically supplement iodine to prevent iodine deficiency disorders.
