Perceptions and Attitudes Towards Genetically Modified Foods Among Urban and Rural Residents in Yangxin County
Objective:To investigate the attitude and cognition of urban and rural residents towards genetically modified food in Yangxin county,Binzhou city,Shandong province.Method:A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1 000 urban and rural residents in Yangxin county by random sampling.Result:Most residents had different degrees of understanding of the concept and characteristics of genetically modified food,while a small number of surveyed residents said that they did not understand genetically modified food.The different levels of understanding were related to age and education,but not gender.About half of the residents believe that genetically modified food has an impact on human health,while the rest think that it has no impact or are not clear.There are differences in the cognition of residents of different genders and different ages.Residents also hold different attitudes towards the issue of whether genetically modified foods affect the environment,and there are significant differences in the cognition of residents with different educational levels.Conclusion:The residents of Yangxin county still have insufficient understanding of genetically modified food,so the publicity and education of genetically modified food knowledge should be strengthened.
