Study on China's Genetically Modified Food Labeling System from the Standpoint of the Consumers'Right to Know
With the fast advancement of biotechnology, genetically modified foods have increasingly reached the market.Since it is difficult to determine the safety of genetically modified foods using existing technological techniques,China has implemented a mandatory labeling system for genetically modified foods in order to protect consumers'legitimate interests, such as the right to know,as well as effectively regulate the relevant market order.Despite the progress in institutional construction, challenges like unclear conceptual definitions, fragmented legislative provisions, delayed institutional design, disorganized supervision, and insufficient legal responsibilities, and limited consumer remedies are evident and cannot be overlooked. To balance the industrialization of genetically modified technology and protect consumers'rights,it is essential to reflect on shortcomings and enhance legislation, supervision, accountability, and relief measures. This will help create a healthy market environment, address the conflict between supply and demand of genetically modified food, protect consumers'right to know while boosting related industries.
