Population Survey on the Food Safety of Cicada Cryptotympana atrata
Based on literature research and population investigation on the edible history of the golden cicada(Cryptotympana atrata),food safety of this insect species is explored. In total,5 745 valid questionnaires are recovered from 6 000 random samplings in Shaanxi,Shandong and Hebei provinces. The results of the survey show that the proportion of people who eat C.atrata is 60.40%,among which the males are more than females. The proportion of eaters is closely related with the age of respondents, among which the proportion of adolescent eaters is much lower, but the proportion of eaters distinctly increases with the increase of respondents'age. In regard to people who grew up in urban areas the proportion of eaters is almost equal to that of non-eaters,but for people who grew up in rural areas the proportion of eaters(68.47%)is much higher than that of non-cicada eaters.People living in related regions exhibit differences in the proportion of people who eat C.atrata and also in their eating history, amount, cooking method, etc.;and the multiple Logit regression analysis further supports that the proportion of people who eat the golden cicada in an area can be significantly affected by the age, gender and the growth environment of local residents. The results prove that the golden cicada serves as a safe nutrient resource for people, and almost all people exhibit no adverse reactions after eating the insects.
