The Current Status of Professional Identity among Undergraduates Majoring in Food Hygiene and Nutrition and Its Impact on Career Planning
Understand the current status of professional identity among undergraduate students majoring in Food Hygiene and Nutrition,and provide a reference for better promoting career planning among students in this major,as well as for nutrition talent reserve strategies in support of the Healthy China initiative.A stratified cluster sampling method was employed to conduct a questionnaire survey among undergraduate students majoring in Food Hygiene and Nutrition at the School of Medicine,Shanghai Jiao Tong University.The survey covered general information,a scale measuring professional identity among college students,post-graduation plans,and participation in career planning activities.Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 23.0,including t-tests,one-way ANOVA,and Sankey diagrams were utilized to visualize the career planning paths of students in this major.Students with better academic performance scored significantly higher in behavioral and appropriateness dimensions of professional identity than those with poorer academic performance(P<0.05).Students who chose the major voluntarily scored significantly higher in appropriateness dimension and subjective identity compared to those who were reassigned,or chose based on parental or others'suggestions(P<0.05).Seniors scored significantly higher in emotional,behavioral dimensions,and overall professional identity than juniors(P<0.05).Students who participated in career planning activities scored significantly higher in emotional,behavioral dimensions,and overall professional identity than those who did not(P<0.05).Among participants,88.5%expressed overall satisfaction,and 61.5%indicated that they had a clearer future career plan after participating in such activities.The Sankey diagram revealed that students with higher professional identity were more likely to choose domestic postgraduate studies or overseas further education,demonstrating a high alignment between their future career plans and the nutrition profession.Our university's Food Hygiene and Nutrition major had enhanced students'professional identity to a certain extent through measures such as deepening professional awareness education for freshmen,promoting curriculum reform,strengthening career planning education,and advancing internship base construction.
