Research Progress on Paramylon and Lipid Metabolism in Euglena gacilis
Euglena gracilis is not only a kind of health food with high added value, but its intracellular paramylon has potential application value in the field of biomedicine. In recent years, with the in-depth study of E.gracilis, great achievements have been made in heterotrophic fermentation, structural analysis and physiological effects of paramylon. However the studies on paramylon and lipid metabolism and regulation of E.gracilis have been rarely reviewed. This article reviews the paramylon and lipid metabolism of E.gracilis, including the synthesis and degradation pathways of paramylon and the biosynthesis pathways of wax ester,as well as the effects of different environmental conditions such as nutrient limitation, exogenous additives and light on the accumulation of paramylon and lipid in E.gracilis.Moreover,it summarized the research progress on using metabolomics to reveal the key metabolites and regulatory factors in the metabolism of paramylon in E.gracilis under different conditions. The problems restricting further research on the metabolism of paramylon and lipid in E.gracilis and the possible future research directions are prospected. The aim is to provide a reference for the basic research on fermentation of E.gracilis.
