Effect of whey hydrolyzed peptides on immune response and allergic rhinitis in mice
This study aimed to investigate the immunomodulatory effect of whey hydrolyzed peptides(WHPs)on mice and the thera-peutic effect of WHPs on allergic rhinitis in mice. The research was separated into two sections. In the first part, mice's immune organ in-dex,specific immunity, and non-specific immunity were studied using a blank group(distilled water),a control group(whey protein so-lution),and an experimental group(WHPs solution with varying dosages). In the second part, mice were divided into five groups,inclu-ding a blank group(normal mice were given aseptic distilled water),a model control group(mice with allergic rhinitis were given aseptic distilled water),and experimental groups(mice with allergic rhinitis were given high, medium, and low doses of WHPs respectively). Results showed that WHPs intervention significantly increased the degree of foot swelling of the mice(P<0.05),the serum levels of in-terleukin-12(IL-12)and interferon-γ(IFN-γ)(P<0.05),the levels of immunoglobulin IgA,IgM,and IgG concentrations(P<0.05),and also increased the activity of macrophages(P<0.05).Moreover,it was significantly superior to whey protein in increasing the thickness of mouse feet, increasing the concentration of immunoglobulin IgA and IgM,and enhancing the phagocytosis ability of mac-rophages.WHPs may significantly decrease histamine levels in blood and nasallavage fluid in allergic rhinitis mice(P<0.05),effectively control IL-4,IL-12,and other inflammatory factors, and descrese the counts of eosinophilic. It was more effective than whey protein in de-creasing the counts of eosinophilic.WHPs significantly increased the immunological response of mice as well as the allergy symptoms of mice with allergic rhinitis, and WHPs was more effective than whey protein in improving immune function and allergic rhinitis.
