A Study on the Adverbs of Degree"Hen"and"Huang"as Complements in the Yanjin Dialect of Henan Province
"Hen"and"Huang"are adverbs of degree used only as complements in the Yanjin dialect of Henan province, and the complement mark"li"cannot be omitted between them and the core words. In the Yanjin dialect, there are many rules for omitting the complement mark"li"between"Huang"and the core words to convey an inap-propriate feeling state of the subject, which does not indicate the extent of the degree. In Yanjin dialect, the adverbs of degree"Hen"and"Huang"are only used as complements, and they are used in the same syntactic function and structural way as complements in the structure of"X li Hen/Huang".However,there are significant differences in modal semantics between the two:"Hen"represents a higher degree than"Huang",and they both are lower than the degree expressed by"Si"."Hen"can serve as a complement to express positive, negative, and neutral colors, while"Huang"often expresses negative and neutral colors. The modal semantics of both have a certain degree of subjectivity.
