On the Contribution of Zhen Dexiu's Compilation of Confucian Analects to the Selection and Revision of Zhuzi Studies
Collected Annotations of Four Books is the masterpiece of Zhu Xi's thought of Neo-Confucianism,but it's difficult to understand because it's like a classic. When the disciples of Zhuzi and their descendants inherited and pro-moted Zhuzi studies, they were obviously faced with the problem of popularization of academic thoughts and academic views. Therefore,Zhu Xi's disciples followed the Collected Annotations of Four Books as the guideline for their learn-ing,and at the same time usurped for its sequel, and promoted the inheritance and innovation of Zhuzi studies through the reinterpretation of the classics.Zhen Dexiu is the founder and most accomplished person who wrote and interpreted Zhu Xi's Collected Annotations of Four Books. His representative work,Compilation of Confucian Ana-lects has contributed to the"selection and revision"of Compilation of Confucian Analects due to its compilation style of"writing according to annotations",interpretation method of"annotating Zhu with Zhu's annotations",interpreta-tion characteristics of"patriarching Zhuzi studies",and interpretation philosophy of"reason first",thus promoting the classicisation of Compilation of Confucian Analects and the popularization and officialisation of Zhuzi's academic thought, and also influenced the development of the hermeneutics of Four Books and Chinese Classics after the South-ern Song Dynasty.
