Moral Injury:A Review of Current Research and Its Ethical Trajectory in the Future
Moral injury refers to the lasting psychological,physiological,spiritual,behavioral,and social effects resul-ting from moral agents perpetrating,participating in,failing to prevent,witnessing,or learning about actions that vi-olate on'es deeply ingrained moral beliefs and ethical expectations.Western psychiatric experts have clarified the symp-toms and mechanisms of moral injury through empirical research,but have failed to grasp its root causes.Moral inju-ry stems from the moral self-shattering caused by conflicts in people's ingrained moral beliefs.This necessitates the intervention of ethics to regulate and integrate those beliefs to achieve a harmonious state,thereby fundamentally re-pairing moral injury.The involvement of ethics in moral injury research helps to clarify the definition of moral injury,reveal its essence,and propose more effective repair methods.
