Chen Xu(1879-1940),with the courtesy name Xu yuan and the nickname Living a lifetime in vain, was an important representative writer of the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School.According to"Xu Yuan Cong Manuscripts:Extracurricular Bibliography",Chen Xu has written hundreds of novels, including"Teardrop Fate","Golden Sneak",and"His Brief History",but the academic community has not paid much attention to Chen Xu.Guo Yanli's"History of Modern Chinese Literature Development"and Fan Boqun's"Saturday's Butterfly Dream"both introduced Chen Xu,while Han Nan's"The Rise of Modern Chinese Novels"praised him as"one of the most outstanding Chinese writers"for his autobiographical love stories.A writer who writes like this is highly worthy of in-depth research. At present,Chen Xu's collection of works has not been systematically organized and published, and the compilation of his chronicle has important information value.
