The Han River is located at the junction of Guangdong,Fujian,and Jiangxi provinces.In ancient times,it served as a vital transportation route connecting the eastern part of Guangdong,the western part of Fujian,and the southern part of Jiangxi.Moreover,the Han River constitutes a significant north-south transportation artery in the southeastern coastal region of China.The Hanjiang Trade Road began in the Tang Dynasty,experienced substantial development during the Song Dynasty,and flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties.Hanjiang Trade Road played an extremely important role in the socio-economic development of the Han River basin and the southern regions of Jiangxi Province.At its northern terminus,the Han River connects with the source of the Gan River at Gongshui,forming a transportation network linking the economies of Chaozhou,Meizhou,Tingzhou,Ganzhou,and Zhangzhou.By examining the natural conditions and transportation status of the Hanjiang Trade Road and integrating the historical development of various regions within the basin,this elucidates the role and significance of the commercial route in the internal development of the Han River basin as well as in the social development of Zhangzhou and Ganzhou.It demonstrates the decisive role of transportation in the socio-economic and cultural development of regional societies.
