Survey on the Language Living Conditions of"Banshan Hakka"in Edi Cun,Chaonan,Guangdong
Edi Cun,located in Leiling Town,Chaonan District,Shantou,is a Hakka dialect island surrounded by Chaoshan dialect.Most of villagers speak Hakka dialect and Chaoshan dialect,and those who speak both Hakka dialect and Chaoshan dialect are often known as"Banshan Hakka".Through field investigation and questionnaire,this paper tries to reveal the language use of the villagers,and discusses the causes of the phenomenon of language life in the village and the survival and development of Hakka dialect.According to the survey results,the internal communication of Edi Cun is mainly Hakka dialect,while the external communication mainly uses Chaoshan dialect or mandarin.At the same time,the villagers'Hakka dialect has shown the characteristics of Chaoshan dialect,and some words,they even only speak Chaoshan dialect.This is closely related to the decrease of local people's language loyalty and their recognition of Chaoshan culture.
