An Empirical Study on the Impacts of Climate Change and Production and Operation Activities on Grassland Degradation: The Case of XilinGol Pasture
The study evaluated and obtained vegetation coverage from 1981 to 2013 by NOAA NDVI and MODIS NDVI remote sensing data in XilinGol pasture.Based on the national standard of grassland degradation, grassland degradation index was calculated that would be balancing grassland quality status, the panel date for climate change and production and management activities verified impact on grassland degradation. The results show as follows:(1) The trend of grassland degradation index displays rising at the beginning and declining later in XilinGol pastoral area from 1981 to 2013,the change process indicated grassland degradation first worsening and later declining.(2) The production and operation activities were the main impact factors on grassland degradation;what's more, non farming operation of the production and operation activities is one of the key factors to grassland degradation, such as mining industry.Animal husbandry production of agricultural production and business activities was another major impact factor of grassland degradation, the more grassland carrying capacity is the worse grassland degradation conditions will be.(3) In addition to the production and operation activities, climate factors affect the grassland degradation mainly due to the fact that summer climate was long-term drought in XilinGol pastoral, and the summer precipitation affect grassland degradation more greatly.
