Mucosal immune adjuvant and its application in Porphyromonas gingivalis vaccine
The infection of pathogens usually invades the body from the mucosa,so mucosal immunity is one of the important strategies to protect the body from pathogens.Porphyromonas gingivalis(Pg)infection originates from the gingival mucosal sur-face,so activating the local mucosal immune response is an effective approach to prevent Pg infection. In order to enhance the mucosal immune effect of vaccines, mucosal immune adjuvants are needed. In this review, the recent progress in mucosal im-mune adjuvant was outlined. The mechanisms, advantages, and disadvantages of different types of mucosal immune adjuvants,as well as their current applications and effects in Pg vaccine were summarized. In addition, the potential application value and de-velopmental trends of mucosal immune adjuvants in Pg vaccine were discussed. This review provides new perspectives for the development of Pg vaccine and the selection of adjuvants.
