With the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization and the increasing attention to ecological envi-ronment issues, the response relationship between urban economic spatial evolution and ecological environment has become a research focus. After analyzing the environmental damage cost response of the economic spatial evolution of capital cities in Northeast China,it is found that the industrialization level of capital cities in Northeast China is decreasing and the urbanization level is increasing slowly. The coordination degree of Changchun and Harbin is low and in a state of imbalance. The degree of environmental damage in the evolution of urban economic space has an increasing trend.Due to the mismatch between environmental carrying capacity and urban economic spatial evolu-tion,no matter how high the comprehensive response degree is,it will lead to the decline of the environmental pro-tection ability and the coordination degree of industrialization and urbanization of the capital cities in Northeast Chi-na.
