The Ethnic Interaction,Exchange and Integration in Datong Prefecture of Xijing During Liao and Jin Dynasties
Xijing Datong Prefecture was an important political and military center of the Liao and Jin dynasties,and also an im-portant gateway for the communication and exchange between the minority groups in the north and the Central Plains,and because of its special geographical location,Xijing Datong Prefecture became a big stage for the interaction and intermingling of the sur-rounding ethnic groups.The setting of Datong Prefecture in the western capital of Liao and Jin created a stable social environment for the interaction and intermingling of various ethnic groups.In terms of economic trade,all ethnic groups actively participated in commercial activities;in terms of culture and education,they were influenced by both the traditional culture and education of the Central Plains and the culture of other ethnic groups;in terms of social life customs,they showed a diversified development.There-fore,through the interactions and exchanges between various ethnic groups,a unique regional culture was formed in Datong,Xijing,which became a microcosm reflecting the ethnic relations in the Liao and Jin periods.
