Ecological Crisis and the Logic of Capital:Forster's Ecocritical Theory
Forster profoundly examines the capitalist system through the prism of ecology. He points out that the conflict be-tween the capitalist mode of production and the ecological environment is deeply rooted and that the capitalist mode of production is the root cause of the ecological crisis.Foster reveals the socio-historical roots and the logic of capital behind the ecological crisis through his critique of the time scale of the ecological crisis, the antiecological nature of capitalism, the economic strategy, the capi-talisation of nature, the expansion of eco-imperialism,and the theory of ecotechnological innovation.Forster emphasises that sustain-able ecological development can only be ensured through fundamental reform of the capitalist system, rather than relying solely on economic and technological adjustments.Although Forster's theory of ecocriticismdoes not propose a specific programme for over-coming the ecological crisis, and essentially constitutes a"moral revolution",it contains deep ecological andethical insights.
