Research on the Northern Wei Pottery Unearthed at the top of Yungang Grottoes
The pottery specimens of the Northern Wei Dynasty unearthed from the Buddhist temple site on the top of Yungang Mountain can be divided into two stages.With the excavation of the time line and represented by the pottery pot,the first section mainly slips the shoulder,the plate mouth and the whole body mesh dark pattern,and the two sections evolve into the round shoul-der,the upper belly is bulging,and the whole body is polished dark pattern.The evolution of the decoration is a process of simplicity and complexity.One section is mainly composed of water ripple,string pattern,square pattern,dark pattern,etc.The two sections of the decoration integrate Buddhist thought,and the combination of string pattern,honeysuckle pattern and lotus petal pattern is added on the basis of a section.In terms of production process,it is mostly made clay plate,less wheel.The two main firing processes are temperature control and atmosphere control.
