The Pragmatic marker"buzhiyu(不至于)"is an explicitly weak negative response,which mainly expresses the speaker's negative attitude,opinion or position toward the content of the other party's discourse,with a weak negative tone.The dia-chronic evolution shows that the pragmatic marker"buzhiyu(不至于)"evolved from an intrasentential phrase combining the nega-tive adverb"bu(不)"and the verb"zhiyu(至于)",and the evolution path can be summarized as:intra-sentence adverbial-verb phrase>adverbial-verb phrase in a hypothetical sentence>commentary adverb>the"na(那)"idiom>pragmatic marker.The evo-lutionary motives of"buzhiyu(不至于)"are mainly the principle of least effort,subjectivity and interactive subjectivity;the evolu-tionary mechanisms are mainly reanalysis,cognitive metaphor,and contextual expansion.The pragmatic marker"buzhiyu(不至于)"s formed by the combination of grammaticalization,lexicalization and pragmatization.
