As contemporary modern short stories,The Metamorphosis and Remorse have respectively developed and expanded the boundaries of limited double narratives in terms of narrative techniques,entering into the inner space where the obvious and the obscure overlap,making the definite meaning diagrams of the characters'actions and family tragedies drift and linger in the chang-ing multi-layered discourse structure,releasing the real power of irony.The protagonists of the two works,Gregor and Juansheng,are both confessors who bear sins.The contradiction between their apparent atonement and hypocrisy is staged as a potential double escape movement in the open narrative.By removing the overall unity imposed by self-consciousness on individual real experience,the two also dismantle the abstract possibility of happiness and ideals,thus showing the closed survival dilemma of the modern sub-ject and the ideological operation of the discourse machine.
