The Perspective,Narrative,and Metaphor in Patinir's Landscape Imagery
In the 16th century,in Antwerp,the artistic center of the Netherlands,naturalism increasingly influenced art,trans-forming natural landscapes from decorative elements in earlier works into visual media for interpreting nature and culture.This mod-ern conception of landscape painting began with Patinir,whose compositions revealed a unique scenic perspective.In presenting an idealized natural space,the imagery simultaneously conveyed complex narrative structures and metaphorical meanings.Consequent-ly,landscapes gradually emerged as independent subjects,moving away from their role as mere interpretive spaces in religious art.
