Municipal Solid Waste Characteristics in Beijing under the Background of Waste Classification
Based on the measured data of delivering quantity and physical and chemical properties of Beijing's Municipal Solid Waste(MSW)from 2015 to 2021,by the mass balance method, the characteristics of Beijing's MSW before and after waste classification are analyzed. The results showed that after the implementation of waste classification policies, the quantity of MSW has changed from an upward trend year by year to a downward trend, with a decrease of 21.1%and 1.7%in 2020 and 2021 respectively;in the residual waste cans, the proportion of food waste has decreased from 50%to 30%-40%,and the proportion of plastic and paper has significantly increased;the purity of food waste has significantly improved.Greenhouse gas emissions assessment shows that compared to unclassified mixed waste, the degradable organic carbon of residual waste decreases, while the proportion of mineral carbon increases. Therefore, the carbon emission intensity of landfill decreases while that of incineration increases. The purity and moisture content of food waste are improved, which increases carbon emissions from composting treatment and increases the carbon emissions reduction potential from anaerobic digestion treatment.
