A Study on the Dynamic Bidirectional Relationship Between Depression and Sleep Quality of Police Officers
A total of 564 police officers were observed by longitudinal follow-up for two stages at a one-year interval using the Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI).A cross-lagged panel model was used to analyze the dynamic mutual predictive relationship between depression and sleep quality of police officers. The results of correlation analysis showed that the simultaneous correlation and sequential correlation between depression and sleep quality in both stages were significant;the re-sults of variance analysis showed that depression and total PSQI scores of male police officers were significantly higher than those of fe-male police officers;the results of cross-lagged analysis showed that depression and sleep quality of police officers had a two-way influ-ence relationship across time points:the decline in sleep quality of police officers was both a negative result caused by depression and a potential risk factor for depression, and the gender difference in the cross-lagged effect of the two was not significant. The results of the study suggest that public security organs should help police officers develop effective emotion regulation strategies, encourage them to maintain a positive and healthy lifestyle, and carry out Group mindfulness-based cognitive practice to break the vicious cycle of negative emotions and sleep problems.
