Numerical Simulation Study of Inverted Arch Disaster-causing Conditions in Qiangfengling Tunnel
Under long-term operation, various diseases occur in tunnels due to geological conditions and insufficient maintenance. For the section from ZK77+265-ZK77+313 to K77+213-K77+357 of Qiangfengling Tunnel in Rongcheng-Wuhai Expressway of National Expressway Network, the foundation is mainly mudstone which has strong hydrophilicity,so three types of diseases, frost heave, thawing settlement, and water absorption and expansion, are generated in part of the inverted arch zone. This paper used the discrete element software MatDEM to establish the tunnel's model and simulate the frost heave, thawing settlement, and water absorption deformation.According to the relation between the volumetric rate and water-absorption rate obtained from the test, the particle volume was changed by increasing/decreasing in particle size,so as to simulate the process of the water absorption and expansion, frost heave, and thawing settlement of the rock. The results showed that the tunnel would be damaged when the groundwater level was above 4 m,while the groundwater level was below 4 m,it had less impact on the tunnel's structure.
