Mathematics competition serves as a crucial pathway for the identification and cultivation of mathematical talents.Professor LENG Gang-song,winner of the 2020 Paul Erdős Award and the 2017 ICCM Best Paper Award,puts forward his insights on several topics,including proposition of mathematics competition,early identification and nurturing of mathematical talents,and mathematics teacher education.The elementary theorems of mathematicians serve as a vital source of inspiration for proposing mathematics competition problems.The lens of mathematicians and the perspectives of educators are both needed in the selection and evaluation of mathematics competition problems.'From new proofs to new discoveries'is one of the best approaches for middle school students to conduct early research.Equitable teacher-student interactions contribute to fostering students'interest and enthusiasm for scientific research.Mathematics teachers need to maintain their professional learning in mathematics and attach importance to communication and cooperation.The interview provides enlightenment for the research and practice of future mathematics competition propositions and mathematics talent education.
