Effects of Clover Root Extract on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Three Forage Species
To explore the growth competitiveness of clover(Trifolium repens)from the perspective of allelopathy, and better explain the reason of successful invasion of Trifolium repens, petri dish bioas-say was used to study the effects of different concentrations(0,2.5,5.0,10.0 g·L-1)of clover root extract on the seed germination and seedling growth of Lolium perenne,Festuca arundinac and Leymus secalinus. The result showed that clover root extract liquid has allelopathic effects on seed germination(germination rate, germination index)and seedling growth(root length, seedling length, root dry weight, seedling dry weight)of three types of forage seeds, and there are certain differences in their allelopathic effects.Clover root extract liquid has an inhibitory effect on the germination of ryegrass seeds, and has a"low promotion and high inhibition"effect on the seed germination of Festu-ca arundinac and Leymus secalinus. It has an inhibitory effect on the root length and dry weight, seedling height and dry weight of ryegrass shows a low concentration promoting effect and a high con-centration inhibiting effect on Festuca arundinac and Leymus secalinus. From the perspective of com-prehensive allelopathic effect index,as the concentration of clover root extract liquid increases,it has an inhibitory effect on ryegrass, while it has a dual effect of"low promotion and high inhibition"on tall Festuca arundinac and Leymus secalinus. There are differences in the sensitivity of the three test-ed forages to the clover root extract liquid,as follows:Lolium perenne>Festuca arundinac>Ley-mus secalinus. The allelopathic effect of clover root extract liquid on three types of forage is obvious. In areas with severe invasion,it is advisable to choose forage with strong tolerance for replanting.
