From"dependence"to"dominance":the change of dowry and reconstruction of in-laws order——based on field surveys in eastern Guizhou
As the basic form of marriage payment,betrothal gifts and dowry are changing under the social transformation,which reflects that the family structure is changing quietly.The practice of marriage payment in eastern Guizhou shows that dowry has changed from dependence to dominance,which results from the multiple functions of dowry in supporting the daughter's married family status and life,strengthening interaction with her daughter and obtaining positive social evaluation.Logically,the domi-nant dowry is actually a symbol of the construction of in-laws order.Under the background of the new era,the in-laws order has been endowed with new construction space,foundation and conditions,making the dominant dowry a key force to construct and maintain the new in-laws order.It is of great significance to understand the change of in-laws order and family order through the change of dowry.
