Group Identity and the Flow Experience of Outdoor Hiking Tourists:the Mediating Role of Social Support and the Moderating Role of Gender
This paper aims to investigate the relationship between group identity, social support, gender and flow experience.587outdoor hiking tourists were surveyed by using the Group Identity Scale,Social Support Scale and Flow Experience Scale. The results show firstly group identity was significantly and positively correla-ted with flow experience(r =0.38,P<0.001),group identity was significantly and positively correlated with social support(r =0.28,P<0.001),and social support was significantly and positively correlated with flow ex-perience(r =0.42,P<0.001);secondly,social support mediated the relationship between group identity and flow experience(β =0.16,t =6.13,P<0.001);lastly gender moderated the second half of the mediating effect(β =-0.37,t =-5.96,P<0.001),and social support was a stronger predictor of flow experience in the fe-male group. It is conduded that group identity not only positively influences the flow experience, but also indi-rectly influences it through social support, and gender moderates the latter half of the mediating pathway.
