Discourse Transformation and Political Advocacy:On the"Down to the Countryside and Join the Army"in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Literary and Art Movement
"Down to the Countryside and Join the Army"was an important cultural policy and practice during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression.Unlike the backlands of the Kuomintang Autonomous Region,where slogans and propaganda were emphasized over political organization and advocacy,in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region under the leadership of the Communist Party of China(CPC),"Down to the Countryside and Join the Army",as an important way for Yan'an intellectuals to experience and reflect on the lives of soldiers and civilians in the Border Region,not only gained the great attention and effective organization by the Border Region's agencies,schools,and various types of associations,but also became a part of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Literary and Arts Movement;In addition,as the Yan'an Literary and Arts Symposium was held,this movement was divided into two periods with different characteristics.While transforming the discourse of the intellectuals,this movement also made a great political convincing influence on the cultivation of national and state consciousness among the military and civilians in the border areas,as well as their acceptance and recognition of the CCP's ideology,policies and systems.
