The Peace Pearl Program,in which the US assisted China to upgrade J-8Ⅱ fighter to restrain Soviet bombers, was the largest military cooperation project between China and the West in the late period of Cold War. And it is also the product of the security alliance to serve the needs of"New Cold War"against Soviet Union in the 1980s. Based on Hold the Line Policy, the Peace Pearl Program which ran from 1986 to 1993,highlighted the restrictive principle of the US military aid to China, and the extreme realism and egoism of the US towards the program. It also exposed the structural entanglements and strategic contradictions behind the initial strategic relationship between China and the US at the end of the Cold War,which reflected the fierce conflict between the two sides on the control and anti-control of technology transfer and deconstructed the myth that Sino-US relations during this period was the so-called"honeymoon". The final abortion of the program highlighted the hegemony and bullying of the US,and declared the official end of Sino-US military cooperation at the end of the Cold War,which was controlled by the interests and will of the US Relevant experience also strengthened China's cherish and grasp of independent diplomatic strategy and industrial policy, which can helpe us to grasp the essence of the US strategy toward China.
