Correlation of Tumor Metastasis-Associated Gene 1 Expression with Chemotherapy Sensitivity and Prognosis in Breast Cancer Patients
Objective To explore the correlation of tumor metastasis-associated gene 1(MTA1)expression with chemo-therapy sensitivity and prognosis in breast cancer patients. Methods 92 patients underwent radical mastectomy for breast cancer were enrolled, and patients were classified into sensitive group(n=53)and resistance group(n=39)according to the results of postoperative chemotherapy.MTA1 expression levels as well as related pathological parameters were compared between two groups.Logistic regression analysis was used to screen the factors affecting the chemosensitivity of the patients, furthermore, the correlation between MTA1 expression levels and prognosis was discussed according to the patient follow-up results. Results A-mong the 92 chemotherapy patients,53 patients were in the sensitive group and 39 patients were in the resistant group.MTA1 was overexpressed in 13 patients and underexpressed in 40 patients in sensitive group, and overexpressed in 22 and underexpressed in 17 cases in resistant group. The overexpression rate of MTA1 in sensitive group was lower than that in resistance group(P<0.05).The proportion of patients aged<55 years, scored ≥80 on Karnofsky Performance Scale(KPS)scale and tumor stageⅠ/Ⅱ in sensitive group was larger than in resistant group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis denoted that age≥55 years,KPS score<80,tumour stage and MTA1 overexpression were all high risk factors for chemotherapy sensitivity(P<0.05).The median progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)were 8 months and 13 months in MTA1 overexpression group, and 12 months and 16.5 months in underexpression group, with statistical difference(P<0.05).Conclusion MTA1 expression in breast cancer patients is associated with chemotherapy effect, and its overexpression is suggestive of insensitivity to chemothera-py and poor prognosis, and may be an important predictor of patient's prognosis.
