Comparison of Ultrasound-guided Radiofrequency Ablation and Surgical Procedure in Treating Patients with Low-risk Thyroid Micropapillary Carcinoma
Objective To compare the efficacy of ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation and surgical procedure in patients with low-risk thyroid micropapillary carcinoma. Methods The clinical data of 205 patients with thyroid micropapillary carcinoma were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into surgical group(n=91,surgical procedure)and radiofre-quency ablation group(n=114,ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation)according to surgical methods.Perioperative indicators were compared between the 2 groups. The patients were followed up for 24 hours after surgery, and the thyroid function before sur-gery and at 1 month after surgery, prognosis and incidence rates of complications were compared between the 2 groups. Results Compared with surgical group, the perioperative indicators in radiofrequency ablation group were lower(P<0.05).At 1 month af-ter surgery, the levels of TG and TGAb in radiofrequency ablation group had no statistically significant differences compared with those before surgery(P>0.05),but the levels of TG and TGAb in surgical group were higher than those before surgery(P<0.05).TG and TGAb in radiofrequency ablation group were lower than those in surgical group(P<0.05).There were no statisti-cal differences in tumor recurrence rate and lymph node metastasis rate within 24 months after surgery between radiofrequency ab-lation group and surgical group(P>0.05),and the total incidence rate of complications was lower in radiofrequency ablation group(P<0.05).Conclusion The efficacy of ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation is acceptable in the treatment of pa-tients with low-risk thyroid micropapillary carcinoma, which can accelerate the rehabilitation process, reduce the intraoperative in-jury to thyroid function and lower the risk of complications.
