Chinese clinical practice guideline for extracorporeal shock wave therapy in children with central spasticity(2024)
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy(ESWT)is a non-invasive,safe,and effective treatment widely used across various clinical fields. There has been a growing focus on applying ESWT in pediatric rehabilitation, leading to an abundance of new treatment experiences and research findings that enhance the clinical evidence supporting its use for spasticity management. However, standardized key technical aspects and treatment protocols for ESWT in children with central spasticity are still lacking. To address this gap and promote standardization in ESWT for central spasticity in children, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Committee of Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine collaborated with the Shockwave Medical Association of Chinese Research Hospital Association to develop this guideline. The guideline covers indications and effectiveness of ESWT,contraindications, positioning techniques, treatment parameters, combined therapy options, outcome measures, potential adverse events, and user qualifications to encourage more standardized and rational use of ESWT.
