Research on Competition Game in the New Natural Gas Market
Natural gas is a green and low-carbon clean energy that plays a significant role in advancing the achievement of the"double-carbon"goal.With the official operation of the State Pipeline Network Corporation in 2020,the natural gas market has gradually developed into a competitive arena with multiple stakeholders including upstream and downstream. To find the competitive dynamics among the new market entities in natural gas market, the paper discusses the competitive landscape of the natural gas market, specifically the game decision between upstream natural gas suppliers(hereafter referred to as suppliers)and downstream urban gas companies(hereafter referred to as city gas companies),based on the context of the gradual independence of the natural gas pipeline network. The research finds that it is beneficial for suppliers to engage in competition only when the additional costs they incur are less than those incurred by city gas companies in procuring new gas sources.Specifically, excessively high transmission fees may prompt suppliers to utilize third-party pipelines, thereby intensifying market competition when a segment of the pipeline is owned by a city gas company.
