Study on the Mixed Oil Law in the Batch Transportation of Methanol and Gasoline in Horizontal Pipeline
Batch transportation of methanol through product oil pipelines not only could expand the transportation method of methanol and reduce the transportation cost, but also can enhance the pipeline capacity and alleviate the low throughput problem of existing product oil pipelines. However, the study on the batch transportation of methanol in product oil pipelines is rarely reported, and the promotion and application of this technology is limited. For the oil mixing problem in the batch transportation, the paper established the methanol/gasoline mixed oil model by combining the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE)method,fluid governing equations, and mass transfer equations and analyzes the rule on the evolution of mixed oil length and mixed oil concentration influenced by transportation sequence and flow velocity during the methanol/gasoline batch transportation. The research indicates that the simulated mixed oil length using this model in the paper is slightly shorter than that obtained with the VOF(Volume of Fluid)method.Choosing the methanol-gasoline sequence during the actual batch transportation can effectively reduce the mixed oil length. The research results can provide the significant theoretical guidance for the batch transportation process of methanol in product oil pipelines.
