Hydrogen Producing Cost from Offshore Wind Power:taking Transporting to Greater Bay Area with Pipeline in Eastern Guangdong Province as an Example
Offshore wind power is a key field of renewable energy and an important support for China to achieve the goal of"double carbon".The offshore wind power in eastern Guangdong is one of the five largest offshore wind power base clusters in China, with great industrial development potential.Hydrogen production from offshore wind power is an important way to promote the consumption of offshore wind power.Taking two hypothetical cases of hydrogen production by offshore wind power in eastern Guangdong, the first scheme is centralized hydrogen production by offshore wind power on land 50 km offshore, and the second one is centralized hydrogen production by offshore wind power and submarine hydrogen pipeline transportation 100 km offshore, which is transported to the core area of Greater Bay Area hydrogen market through pipelines, and then to Huizhou,Shenzhen,Hong Kong,Guangzhou,Foshan, and Zhongshan,so as to carry out such diversified utilization of hydrogen as hydrogen-doped gas turbine power generation, hydrogen substitution by-products from refining and chemical industry, and hydrogen energy transportation. After the comparative analysis, the paper concludes that the cost competitiveness of hydrogen produced by offshore wind power is not strong in the short and medium term,it is difficult to compete with hydrogen sources such as the hydrogen onshore, and it would carry out demonstration applications combining carbon trading to reflect the green premium.
