Epidemiology and Clinical Features of Ligament Injury Resulting from Acute Ankle Sprain
Objective To investigate the epidemiological and clinical features of ligament injuries resulting from acute ankle sprain based on ultrasound examination and provide a basis for ultrasound diagnosis of such diseases. Methods We analysised the clinical data of 856 patients of ligament injuries caused by acute ankle sprain diagnosed by high-frequency ultrasound in Luoyang Orthopedic Hospital of Henan Province from March 2022 to March 2023 retrospectively, summarized the demographic distribution of each ligament injuries and analyzed the differences between ligament injuries type and injuried side, sex and age. Results Among the 856 patients, there were 445 males and 411 females. The average age were(29.45±17.84)years.The anterior talofibular ligament involvement had the highest incidence(96.8%),and anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament injuries simultaneously was the most common(36.2%).Every ligament had the highest incidence of type Ⅰ injury. There was no significant difference between both sides in patients with anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament and anterior tibiofibular ligament injury(P>0.05),but there was significant difference between both sides in patients with deltoid ligament injury(P<0.05).Patients with anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament, and deltoid ligament injuries were higher incidence in male than in female(P<0.05).In patients involving anterior talofibular ligament and anterior tibiofibular ligament injury, the age difference was significant(P<0.05).The highest incidence of anterior talofibular ligament injuries in the young and middle-aged group(36.1%).And the highest incidence of anterior tibiofibular ligament injuries in the middle-aged and elderly group(31.5%).Conclusion Acute ankle sprain resulting ligament injury most frequently involves anterior talofibular ligament and has a higher frequently in males than in females. The young and middle-aged group(18~36)has a high incidence rate. The ligament injuries of type Ⅰ have the highest incidence.
