Research progress on polymer microsphere adsorbents for hemoperfusion
Clearing excessive toxins is crucial for the alleviation and treatment of associated diseases.Hemoperfusion technology is one of the effective ways to remove accumulated toxins, and the removal efficiency is highly dependent on the adsorbents filled in the hemoperfusion apparatus.Among the various types of adsorbents, polymer microsphere adsorbents are a major mainstream. There are many problems in traditional adsorbents, such as insufficient adsorption efficiency and low safety. Therefore,it is urgent to develop adsorbents with good hemocompatibility, high adsorption capacity, and selectivity. In this article, the current progress in the removal efficiency of different toxins(bilirubin,low-density lipoprotein,protein-bound uremic toxins, and inflammatory cytokines)by polymer microsphere adsorbents was summarized, and the future development direction of hemoperfusion technology was discussed.
