A case report of imported long-latency vivax malaria
Objective To increase the attention of clinicians to long-latency vivax malaria,to avoid misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis of long-latency malaria cases,to provide basis for timely treatment of malaria cases and treatment of malaria epidemic sites, and to continuously consolidate the achievements of malaria elimination. Methods An investigation was conducted about the history of travel to the China-Myanmar border and diagnosis and treatment of a case of imported vivax malaria reported by the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University on February 14,2024.Its incubation period was calculated and the reasons for delayed diagnosis were analyzed. Results The incubation period of this imported vivax malaria case(Gao)was 307-312 days. The patient himself, his family members, and clinicians on attendance did not consider the possibility of malaria, and the clinicians also did not proactively issue a malaria testing application form. After diagnosis, the patient was given the"chloroquine and primaquine 8-day treatment"antimalarial treatment. After the antimalarial treatment, the patient's body temperature began to drop on the same day,and the body temperature dropped to normal on the third day of medication without recurrence. Conclusions Imported vivax malaria cases have a rare long incubation period, which is easy to be ignored by clinicians and lead to misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis.
