Philosophical Construction of Annotations in Ames' Translated Version of Zhongyong
The annotations in Ames'translated version of Zhongyong are explored. It is found that four types of annotations, that is,morphological and phonological, comparative and contrastive, explanatory, and commentary annotations, are employed to explicate the philosophical basis of the translation of the original text, demonstrate the characteristics of Chinese philosophy in translating philosophical terms, highlight the modern significance of Chinese philosophy, display the importance of Zhongyong for the development of classical Chinese philosophy, and reveal the fruitful achievements of Confucian research to the world.
