A Contrastive Study on the English Translations of Clothing Words lmprinted by Chinese Culture in Yuefu Poetry from the Perspective of Cognitive Construal
As an essential part of fine traditional Chinese culture,the clothing words imprinted by Chinese culture cover characteristics of clothing forms,cultural images,historical backgrounds and others,whose accurate English expressions are vital for the spread of Chinese culture.Given cogni-tive construal,the paper,based on the Yuefu Poetry's database related to these clothing words,con-trasts the different English translations of the poems at home and abroad to analyse their translation cases from focusing,prominence,perspective,and specificity.In addition,translators'ways of cog-nitive construal are discussed in view of the differences in cultural backgrounds,translation posi-tions,translation purposes and thinking as well as linguistic abilities.
