N-formylation of carbon dioxide(CO2)is the reaction of CO2 with organic amine in the presence of a reducing agent to form N-formamide compound. The N-formylation reaction of CO2 can be used as a resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and can convert cheap CO2 into high value-added organic chemicals such as N,N-dimethylformamide and N-formylmorpholine,expands the CO2 downstream conversion and utilization of the reaction network. In this paper, the catalyst system, catalytic mechanism, and reaction process of N-formylation of CO2 in recent years were reviewed, and the problems in the research and future development of the reaction were also discussed.
