Digital Literacy and Rural Income Inequality:Effects and Mechanisms
Reducing the internal income gap in rural areas is the essential requirement for common prosperity. In the context of the rapid development of the digital economy, digital literacy has become an important factor affecting the common prosperity of rural residents.Based on the data from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),the panel quantile model is used to empirically analyze the impact of digital literacy on the income gap within rural areas and its internal mechanism. The study found that improving digital literacy has a higher income-generating effect on low-income groups, which is conducive to narrowing the intra-rural income gap;the endowment of rural residents and regional differences will affect the effect of digital literacy, and the improvement of digital literacy can more significantly narrow the intra-rural income gap in the low-education groups, the young groups, and the eastern region;Improving digital literacy can also promote the access to information and the accumulation of social capital of rural residents, thus promoting the narrowing of intra-rural income gap within rural areas;Countermeasures are proposed, such as continuing to strengthen the construction of rural digital infrastructure, actively carrying out digital literacy training for rural residents, and vigorously promoting the construction of rural information platforms.
