A Study on the Relationship Between Reducing Carbon Emissions and Common Prosperity:Theoretical Mechanisms and Empirical Study
Reducing carbon dioxide emissions is a key task in promoting sustainable development in our country. This task will place profound impact on our country's achievement of common prosperity.Clarifying the relationship between carbon dioxide emission reduction and common prosperity is of great significance for the effectiveness carbon dioxide reduction efforts.Utilizing panel data from sample provinces from 2011 to 2020,a common prosperity index is constructed and measured across four dimensions:sharing level, material prosperity, spiritual prosperity, and public resources and services. The study examines the impact of reducing carbon dioxide emissions on common prosperity. The results indicate that reducing carbon dioxide emissions has a significant positive impact on common prosperity in China, with noticeable heterogeneity, decreasing from east to central to western regions. In terms of transmission mechanisms, this paper confirms that reducing carbon dioxide emissions can enhance common prosperity levels by promoting the rationalization of industrial structure, while the channel for upgrading industrial structure is less clear. To promote common prosperity alongside carbon dioxide emissions reduction, this paper proposed following suggestions:adherence to the road of high-quality development;coordinate regional emission reduction efforts effectively;and guide industrial upgrading comprehensively.
