Application value of dermoscopy in the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma
Objective To evaluate the dermatoscopic features of pyogenic granuloma and the application value of dermatoscopy in the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma. Methods 31 suspected pyogenic granuloma lesions from 31 patients were first clinically diagnosed by experienced dermatologists, followed by dermatoscopic and histopathological examinations of the lesions, with a comparison of the diagnostic results. Results Among the 31 suspected lesions, dermatoscopy diagnosed 25 cases, while histopathological examination confirmed 27 cases. With histopathological results as the reference standard, the dermatoscopy exhibited a sensitivity of 93%and specificity of 75%.The dermatoscopic features of pyogenic granuloma were most commonly red homogeneous areas(25/27,93%),followed by white collar-like structures(18/27,67%).The common dermatoscopic patterns were red homogeneous areas+white collar-like structures+white band(7/27),followed by red homogeneous areas+white collar-like structures(6/27),and red homogeneous areas+white collar-like structure+vascular structure(4/27).Conclusion The dermoscopy is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma.
